Update Summary

VMware ESXi 8.0 Update 3j (build 25429389) delivers bug fixes and a separate security-only image, ESXi 8.0 U3sj - 25410958. It also notes Microsoft 2011 Secure Boot certificate expiration guidance and requires a host reboot plus VM migration or shutdown for installation.

Update Details

Security

  • Security-only image available as ESXi 8.0 U3sj - 25410958.
  • Microsoft 2011 Secure Boot certificate expiration guidance: ESXi 8.0 Update 3j is signed with Microsoft UEFI CA 2011, Microsoft UEFI CA 2023, and VMware Secure Boot Signing certificates, so host Secure Boot is generally not affected.
  • FIPS-related restriction: RSA signature generation fails when using RSA keys smaller than 2048 bits; SHA1 signature generation is not supported.

Bug Fixes

  • Fixed NFS v4 client EREMOTEIO errors during I/O.
  • Fixed rare purple/blue screen crashes involving VMXNET3 with virtual IOMMU, DVfilter/container ports, DFW port removal, TCP retransmission timers, VMFS UNMAP, volume mount during upgrade, TPM firmware upgrades, and ZDOM false alarms.
  • Improved Network I/O Control behavior at high packet rates by adjusting default queue and world settings.
  • Fixed NVMe issues including delayed reset handling, SMART-statistics memory problems, reservation cleanup log spam, and storage pool health problems caused by memory leaks.
  • Fixed VMFS/LUN handling issues, including possible VMFS overwrite on shared LUNs and failed VMDK migration/inflation between LUNs.
  • Fixed vSAN multi-writer disk latency during host reboot and improved Storage vMotion performance across different storage arrays.
  • Fixed iSCSI SAN boot path count reduction after host reboot and intermittent tunneled SSL failures from vCenter to ESXi.
  • Fixed LACP alarm/event reporting when a physical NIC goes down.
  • Fixed Emulex lpfc driver issues causing degraded congestion handling, high I/O latency, reboot/shutdown crashes, storage-array-upgrade crashes, and VMFS heartbeat connectivity warnings.
  • Fixed NVIDIA nmlx5 VF link state behavior so it can follow PF link state when configured.

New Features

  • NVIDIA nmlx5 driver now allows configurable VF link-state behavior so VFs can follow PF link state when using nmlxcli tools.
  • Network I/O Control defaults were adjusted to better handle higher-speed NIC traffic.

Known Issues

  • The ESXi and esx-update bulletins are dependent on each other; include both in one host patch baseline or use the rollup bulletin to avoid patching failures.
  • Known issues from previous releases remain listed, including DPU, networking, storage, and vSphere Lifecycle Manager limitations.

Hints

  • Download requires the Broadcom Support Portal; offline bundle and ISO are both provided.
  • Host reboot is required, and virtual machines must be migrated or shut down before applying the update.
  • For ESXi hosts with DPUs, IPv6 must remain enabled for DPU management.
  • For Secure Boot and Microsoft certificate expiration details, see KB 423893.
  • For LACP alarm behavior details, see KB 378014.
  • For authenticated online/offline download details, see KBs 390121, 390098, and 389276.
