Update Summary

VMware ESXi 8.0 Update 3h (ISO Build 25067014) delivers critical bug fixes and a security-only image, plus automatic renewal of VMCA-issued vCenter and ESXi SSL certificates near expiration. It also includes VMware Tools bundling changes and multiple vSAN, storage, networking, and host stability fixes.

Update Details

Security

  • Security-only image ESXi 8.0 U3sh - 25066677 includes critical security updates.
  • Fixes an authentication issue that could cause VM migration or snapshot operations to fail with InvalidState.
  • Addresses hostd-related issues that could cause ESXi hosts to disconnect from vCenter or the Active Directory domain.
  • Includes security-related updates to esx-ui and VMware-VM-Tools components.

Bug Fixes

  • Fixes vSAN File Services accessibility issues caused by incomplete I/O commits after upgrading to 8.0 Update 3e or later.
  • Improves vSAN remediation behavior and resolves long resynchronization during LSOM disk congestion.
  • Fixes multiple host crash and unresponsiveness issues in CPU statistics collection, NVMe/NVMe-FC handling, TCP/IP timers, IP input, and distributed firewall migration paths.
  • Resolves storage and snapshot issues affecting vSphere Virtual Volumes, FCD tasks, CBT after migration, quiesced snapshots, and large I/O DMA mapping failures.
  • Fixes networking issues including packet drop statistics, vmxnet3 transmit stalls, and large packet segmentation failures.
  • Resolves issues where SSH logs were written to syslog.log instead of auth.log and where ESXi license expiration could occur prematurely.

New Features

  • Automatic renewal of VMCA-issued vCenter and ESXi SSL certificates near expiration; supported ESXi host certificates are extended by 5 years when less than 10 days from expiry.

Known Issues

  • The ESXi and esx-update bulletins are dependent on each other; include both in a single host patch baseline or use the rollup bulletin to avoid patching failures.
  • If VMCA certificate mode is set to custom, automatic SSL certificate renewal does not work and must be switched to vmca.
  • Known issues from previous releases remain listed, including DPU, networking, storage, and FIPS-related limitations.

Hints

  • Host reboot and VM migration or shutdown are required for the ESXi patch and offline bundle installation.
  • Download the patch from the Broadcom Support Portal; the notes reference KBs 390121, 390098, and 389276 for authenticated online and offline download details.
  • For hosts without vSphere Lifecycle Manager, use the offline bundle ZIP or an image profile for ESXi updates.
  • Bundled VMware Tools images include windows.iso (12.5.4), windows-x86.iso (12.4.9), and linux.iso (10.3.26).
  • If you already face the CBT migration issue and cannot update immediately, disable CBT for affected VMs.
