OpenAI ChatGPT Update

August 20, 2026 feature updates for ChatGPT and Codex include changing a ChatGPT Site URL, Apple Messages support in the desktop app, expanded Computer History availability, read-only Codex chat snapshots, and synced pinned chats. Android is not included for pinned chat sync.

• Site owners on Plus and Pro can change an existing ChatGPT-hosted Site URL without redeploying; the old address redirects to the new URL, including routes and query parameters.
• On Apple silicon Macs, the Apple Messages plugin in the ChatGPT desktop app can read and search iMessage, SMS, and RCS conversations and prepare or send messages through Messages.
• Computer History is now available in the EEA, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom for Pro users in the ChatGPT desktop app on macOS.
• Users can share a read-only snapshot of a Codex chat via personal share links.
• Pinned chats now stay in sync between the ChatGPT desktop app and iOS when using the same Codex account.

• Android is not included in this release for pinned chat sync.
• Codex chat snapshots do not include tool calls or shell input/output, but sensitive paths, diffs, images, or other content may still remain.

• Computer History is off by default and requires Memories.
• When using the Apple Messages plugin, ChatGPT asks the user to approve the message and recipients before sending.
• Custom domains remain separate and unchanged when changing a ChatGPT Site URL.
• Codex redacts known secret patterns in shared snapshots, but users should review the snapshot before sharing.
