Update Summary

KB5101650 updates Windows 11 24H2 with the latest security fixes, quality improvements, and non-security changes from prior preview releases. It also includes security hardening for TDI transports, RDP publisher thumbprint guidance, and a curl update to 8.21.0. Reference IDs: KB5094126, KB5095093, KB5120102.

Update Details

Security

  • Addresses security vulnerabilities documented in the July 2026 Security Updates guide.
  • Adds security hardening that enforces TDI transport registration requirements; apps using sockets over unregistered third-party TDI transports may stop working.
  • Upgrades the Windows curl tool to version 8.21.0 with security improvements.
  • Adds support for SHA-2 certificate thumbprints for trusted RDP publishers and recommends moving away from SHA-1 to reduce phishing risk.

Bug Fixes

  • Fixes an issue where certain third-party apps using OLE Automation with Microsoft Office might fail to launch Office or open documents after KB5094126.
  • Fixes additional scenarios where the Recycle Bin confirmation dialog could show an internal file name instead of the original file name after KB5094126.
  • Includes quality improvements from KB5094126 and KB5095093.

New Features

  • Adds support for SHA-2 certificate thumbprints for trusted RDP publishers.
  • Updates AI components to version 1.2605.856.0 for Image Search, Content Extraction, Semantic Analysis, and Settings Model.

Known Issues

  • Temporarily unavailable for some Dell devices using Intel Innovation Platform Framework (IPF) drivers due to an incompatibility with an Intel component.
  • Microsoft is not currently aware of any issues with this update.

Hints

  • IT administrators should migrate RDP file trust to SHA-256 thumbprints or stronger algorithms as soon as possible.
  • Devices without updated Secure Boot certificates will continue to start and receive Windows updates; Microsoft will continue deploying newer certificates through Windows Update.
  • Windows 11, version 24H2 Home and Pro editions reach end of updates on 2026-10-13; Enterprise and Education editions remain supported until 2027-10-12.
  • If built-in Windows experiences stop responding to certain keyboard shortcuts, restarting the affected app may resolve the issue.
  • The servicing stack update includes KB5120102 (Build 26100.8872) to improve update installation reliability.
