Update Summary

July 16, 2026 Google Cloud updates include Apigee X maintenance window upgrades to 1-17-0-apigee-10, Cloud KMS PQC signing algorithms in GA, and GKE version rollouts with security updates. Gemini Enterprise, Compute Engine, and Oracle Database@Google Cloud also received notable changes.

Update Details

Security

  • GKE security updates include new versions that use updated Container-Optimized OS images with cumulative security fixes.

New Features

  • Cloud KMS now supports multiple post-quantum computing (PQC) signing algorithms in General Availability, including PQ_SIGN_ML_DSA_44, PQ_SIGN_ML_DSA_65, PQ_SIGN_ML_DSA_87, and PQ_SIGN_SLH_DSA_SHA2_128S.
  • Gemini Enterprise mobile apps now support Bring Your Own Identity (BYOID) in GA for organizations using supported third-party identity providers.
  • GKE now supports the any-reservation-then-fail reservation affinity to avoid falling back to on-demand capacity when reserved capacity is unavailable.
  • GKE version 1.33 now supports the N4D machine series for node pool auto-creation and Autopilot clusters in later patch versions.
  • GKE VerticalPodAutoscaler supports CPU startup boost in Preview for version 1.36.0-gke.4447000 and later.
  • Oracle Database@Google Cloud now supports cloning for Autonomous AI Databases in GA.

Known Issues

  • Apigee X instances with a DNS misconfiguration, as described in Known Issue 445936920, will not be updated.
  • Apigee X instances using an Apigee Java Library removed in the October 16, 2025 release notes will not be updated.

Hints

  • Apigee X instances configured for maintenance windows and below version 1-17-0-apigee-10 will be upgraded within 7 to 21 days, with an expected upgrade date notification sent within two business days.
  • Starting June 30, 2026, enabling the Kubernetes Engine API also enables the Filestore API by default in a project.
  • NotebookLM Enterprise has been renamed to Gemini Notebook Enterprise; APIs still use the same endpoints, and the subscription page still shows the old name.
  • GKE release note rollouts may take multiple days to reach all Google Cloud zones.
  • In GKE, some listed versions are deprecated and will be removed in 90 days or at end of support, whichever comes first.
