Known Issues

  • After upgrading to Veeam Backup & Replication 12, replicas that were in the Failback state during the upgrade may be shown as Failover until they are rescanned.
  • Backup proxy cannot transfer a backup to an SMB-based repository when the share is located on the same server as the proxy.
  • Replication of encrypted VMs with datasets is not supported for vSphere 8.
  • Backup copy jobs no longer support selecting workloads from backup copies or from infrastructure.
  • Backup to Tape may perform a full backup on each run when the source retention is below the documented restore point thresholds.
  • Non-ASCII characters are not supported in the product installation path.
  • Windows SmartScreen may block the Veeam Backup & Replication ISO from mounting.
  • After upgrading to Veeam Backup & Replication 12, jobs may perform a full scan-based incremental run for NTFS virtual disks with cluster size 64 KB or larger.

Hints

  • Review the upgrade checklist carefully before upgrading from previous versions.
  • For ESXi 8.0 U1 support, Veeam Backup & Replication 12 P20230412 (build 12.0.0.1420 P20230412) is required.
  • For some Windows Server versions, additional hotfixes not included in Windows Update must be installed; see KB1838.
  • PostgreSQL 15.1 is included in setup, but the notes recommend installing the latest PostgreSQL 15.x release.
  • Configuration backup and restore should be used for backup server migrations because encrypted data cannot be decrypted by a newly installed server attached to an existing database.
  • Storage infrastructure is rescanned every 10 minutes; run Rescan Storage manually after storage changes if needed.
  • Backup copy jobs in immediate copy mode process only the latest backup chain unless the BackupCopyMirrorAll registry value is configured.
  • Data in object storage buckets/containers must be managed solely by Veeam; lifecycle rules are not supported.
