June 4, 2026 update: ChatGPT memory is now updated automatically to reduce stale or contradictory memories, and Lockdown Mode is available to all logged-in users. The rollout also begins ads for Free and Go users in the UK.

• Lockdown Mode is an optional advanced security setting that limits web and external service access to reduce the risk of data exfiltration from prompt injection attacks.
• When enabled, Lockdown Mode restricts network-enabled capabilities such as live web browsing, deep research, agent mode, file downloads, and some web-derived image support.

• Memory is now updated automatically to keep context more current and improve personalization.
• Users can review memories through sources or the memory summary.
• Plus and Pro users get twice as much memory capacity.
• Lockdown Mode is now available to all logged-in users across account types and workspaces.
• Ads are being rolled out for Free and Go users in the UK.

• To revert to the legacy saved memories system, go to Settings > Memory > Saved memories.
• On iOS or Android, update the ChatGPT app to the latest version to access the memory update.
• Personal users can enable Lockdown Mode from Settings > Security.
• Workspace admins can configure Lockdown Mode through workspace settings and role-based access controls.
• The memory update is rolling out first to Plus and Pro users in the US, then to Free and Go plans and additional countries over the next few weeks.
