New data loss prevention capabilities for file attachments and proximity conditions are generally available. Admins can now match file names, extensions, MIME types, and proximity conditions across Gmail, Drive, and Chat.

  • New DLP controls help block or detect sensitive file attachments by file name, file extension, file type, and proximity matching.
  • Proximity matching can detect sensitive data within up to 1,000 characters of other predefined data types, regular expressions, or word lists.

Hints

  • Admins configure the new content conditions in the Admin console under DLP content conditions.
  • There is no end-user setting for this feature.
  • Rollout is gradual for Rapid Release and Scheduled Release domains, with visibility taking up to 15 days starting May 27, 2026.
