Update Summary

May 28, 2026 Google Cloud release notes cover new features across Backup and DR, Gemini Enterprise, GKE, and Security products. Notable changes include Chronicle API upgrades, Core Assistant GA, and SSH hardening in Secure Source Manager.

Update Details

Security

  • Secure Source Manager removed support for legacy and insecure SSH algorithms to reduce exposure to vulnerabilities such as GHSA-3m6q-h5gj-7mrw.
  • Google SecOps Chronicle API and SOAR API resources were unified and upgraded to v1, signaling production-ready API stability and a more secure integration surface.
  • Security Command Center Risk Engine now detects toxic combinations related to Managed Service for Apache Spark, including Lightning Engine.

New Features

  • Backup and DR now shows Google Cloud Backup and DR Service protection summaries at the organization and folder levels.
  • Bigtable Enterprise Plus backups can now retain data for up to 365 days, generally available.
  • Cloud Logging, Cloud Trace, and Error Reporting now document available regional API endpoints on their REST reference pages.
  • Gemini Enterprise Core Assistant is generally available and adds Trace and Metrics tabs in public preview for observability and monitoring.
  • Gemini Enterprise Agent Platform now offers Gemini 3.1 Flash Image and Gemini 3 Pro Image as generally available models, with 4K image output in preview and video input support in preview for Gemini 3.1 Flash Image.
  • Claude Opus 4.8 is now available in Model Garden.
  • GKE now supports C4A bare metal instances, cluster-level AMD SEV-SNP and Intel TDX enablement on Autopilot, and L4 load balancer Cloud Logging configuration via the L4LBConfig CRD.
  • Google SecOps now lets tenant administrators manage access to public preview features from a new Public Preview Features page.
  • Google SecOps Chronicle API resources have been upgraded from v1 beta to v1, and legacy SOAR API resources have been unified into Chronicle API.
  • Security Command Center Risk reports now include more content in the Risk Engine introduction and System attack exposure pages.

Known Issues

  • Public preview feature changes in Google SecOps may take one to six days to appear in all regions.
  • In compliance-controlled tenants such as FedRAMP or HIPAA, preview features cannot be toggled from the Public Preview Features page and must be enabled through Google SecOps support.

Hints

  • Secure Source Manager SSH clients must support modern algorithms such as curve25519-sha256, diffie-hellman-group14-sha256, chacha20-poly1305@openssh.com, or aes128-ctr to continue Git-over-SSH access.
  • Gemini Enterprise Agent Platform preview model endpoints should be migrated before July 17, 2026: gemini-3.1-flash-image-preview to gemini-3.1-flash-image, and gemini-3-pro-image-preview to gemini-3-pro-image.
  • Cloud Storage hierarchical namespace buckets will delete empty folders via Object Lifecycle Management Delete actions starting August 26, 2026, when lifecycle conditions are met.
